• Civil War Period Ship Manifests Span Many Major Ports

    Approximately 60 Civil War period ship manifests and related papers, with the manifests being as large as 11 x 16. Most are dated 1864, and illustrate a great deal of coastal trade, representing many port cities, such as Havana, New York, Liverpool, Philadelphia, Provincetown, [MA], Halifax.  The manifests list a number of different ships, including the Winfield Scott, Brig Herald.


    Many merchants are represented, such as Samuel Asbury & Co, Burgess and Goddard and the manifests are signed by a number of inspectors including W.E. Reed, B. Swain, E. Reed Myer, J. Nevin Pomeroy, David Foy an, Samuel Asbury


    Contents include earthenware, herring, mackerel, oysters and wood.




    Condition ranges from good to very good with a few fold splits, expected toning and several having small pieces removed.  Overall, a fine grouping.
