(1780-1852) was the Territorial Governor of Iowa (1841-1846). DS, 1 p., an
abstract for the expenditures for the Sac and Fox Treaty on October 11, 1842. Chambers
ardently opposed the Constitution of 1846 for Iowa’s statehood. Others
supported it and Chambers stepped down as governor.
The SAC AND FOX TREATY of 1842 was the third iteration of several negotiations between the Sac and Fox people after the Black Hawk War. The 1842 treaty was the last, because it stripped the tribe of all its lands west of the Mississippi and moved them to Kansas.
Offering a one-page, 9 ¾ x 15, abstract of expenditures “of the Treaty concluded with the Sac and Fox Indians on the 11th of October 1842.” Chambers certifies the expenditures for the Burlington Iowa Territory and signs the document.
