[Judaica] Michael Novakovic's Memoir A Pilgrim for Freedom

An 11-year-old boy from the ancient city of Split, on the Adriatic coast, fled with his family when his homeland was invaded by the Nazis at the beginning of World War II. He grew up in the United States and became a highly successful businessman.  In his poignant memoir, he describes how his refugee family barley survived, offering vivid details of the hardships he, his siblings and parents endured. He also chronicles how his family, with great ingenuity and industry, worked their way up to levels of success unimaginable during the darkest days of the war. Finally, his story is also one of a valiant soldier who sought to pay back his debts to the United States through distinguished service in the U.S. Air Force in intelligence operations.
