Offering two contiguous editions, numbers 47 and 48, published December 27, 1845, and January 3, 1846, with stories, including “A Jesuit Planning The Conquest Of The World.” The publication provided a sketch of the Jesuits. “…Long study is necessary to fully understand them…The figure on the preceding page is an accurate representation of a Jesuit, and in a most characteristic position. He has a terrestrial globe before him…We have before given some important facts illustrating the influence swayed by the Jesuits…their means for gaining and keeping up their surprising influence over the young…”  The article goes on to discuss secrets of the Jesuits.  Another article provides details of the wreck of the sloop of war Peacock and the loss of the boat.

The December 27, 1845, edition has a cover story on Indians smoking fish, an exploration of the great Salt Lake from Captain Tremont’s second exploring expedition, a Turkish chart of the Battle of Navarino.

    Two very fascinating magazines.

Some pages are disbound but all are very readable. Expected toning.
