WALTER BENJAMIN LANTZ (April 27, 1899-March 22, 1994) was an American cartoonist, animator,
film producer and director, best known for Walter Lantz Productions and
creating Woody Woodpecker in 1940.
Lantz
produced theatrical cartoons longer than most of his contemporaries and Woody
Woodpecker remained a staple of Universal’s release schedule until 1972 when
Lantz closed his studio.
Here
is a Woody Woodpecker drawn by Lantz and inscribed “To Carla Shuey, Walter
Lantz, 1985” Beautifully executed on an
odd-shaped card, approximately 2 ¾” x 4 ¾” at the largest point, possibly cut
to fit a montage.
Light
scuffing at the bottom, but overall in excellent condition and can be easily
framed.
