ISAIAH THOMPSON (d. 1791) enlisted as a sergeant in Col. Samuel Elmore’s Regiment on April 8, 1776, and was stationed at Fort Schuyler (Fort Stanwix). He was promoted to Ensign in 1776, and then commissioned 1st Lieutenant in Col. Lamb’s Artillery Regt. on January 24, 1777. Thompson served with honor and was promoted Captain/Lieutenant on April 14, 1781. He was present at Yorktown where the artillery played a major role in winning the siege.
Partly printed one-page DS, 6 ½ x 7, “I Thompson, Lieut. Artillery, August 30, 1780, being a receipt for 222 pounds, one shilling, two pence, “being the balance due me, on the fifth day of January last, as stated by the Committees of the State and the Army.”
Darkly signed. Light general toning, Else very good. With fine period docketing on the verso. A nice example of Revolutionary War history.
